To those called, loved and kept by
Jesus Christ. Mercy, peace, and love be yours in
abundance.
Jude eagerly intended to write a letter
about the salvation we share. The Holy Spirit prompted
him instead to write an urgent message about contending
for the faith. Godless false teachers had secretly
slipped into the Church and were leading Christians
astray.
It should not have surprised the
Christians of his day and should not surprise
Christians of our day that false teachers are in the
Church. A careful study of Jude reveals that the
apostles had warned that this would take place. There
are a couple of differences between our day and Jude's
day concerning this attack on truth.
1. The problem
is worse today;
2. It is not
always done in secret.
Today, seminaries train ministers
in false teaching, and then the false teachers are
openly elected or sent into Christian churches.
I will be writing more about false
teachers and false teaching in the near future. The
Holy Spirit is trying to warn us as He tried to warn
the Christians through Jude and other people used of
the Holy Spirit to write the Scriptures. We live in a
day when few people study and understand the Scriptures
and even fewer teach the whole truth of God in purity
and without mixture. The judgment will be severe, not
only on those who are false teachers, but also on those
who listen to and follow them. A thorough study of the
25 verses of the book of Jude will prepare our hearts
and minds to hear more and will alert us of the danger
that we, our families, and our friends are in from
these wicked people and their lies and deceptions.
Let's build ourselves up in the
most holy faith and contend earnestly for that faith.
Let's discern and reject all false teachers and false
teaching. Let's no longer live in darkness but be light
in the Lord. May the peace of the Lord be yours.
Praise and thanks to Him who is able to keep you
from falling; glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
