Famine of Truth
There is a famine of truth in the
Church and in the world. The famine is manifested in
two ways in the Church: There is a famine of truth
being preached and taught, and there is a famine of
hearing the truth where it is preached and taught.
There are many preachers who are
called of God, but their relationship with the Word of
God has always been in the context of a particular
church or group. They interpret and preach the Word in
a way that keeps the Word in alignment with the beliefs
of their particular church or group. If preachers would
stop and think about how they have been trained and how
the preachers down the street have been trained and
realize that there is not harmony in the preaching of
the Word, they would have to discern that something is
not right. But too often they are blinded by false
ecumenical gatherings and such statements as,
“Let’s agree on the essentials,” and
“Let’s love and agree to disagree.”
While all this sincere but foolhearty and pseudo
agreeing is taking place, more and more preachers are
falling away from preaching and teaching the
essentials, which further results in many born again
church members falling away from the essentials.
The hard truth and conclusion is
that many preachers have been called by the Spirit of
God but have been influenced by man and the devil in
their understanding of Scripture. Almost everyone would
agree with this if I was relating it to the religious
leaders who opposed Jesus in His time on earth. I do
relate this to them, but I am also absolutely relating
it to many preachers in various groups and churches of
our day. Selah!
The result of this influence is
that many truly born again people come to the Lord but
are trained to become just like their preachers and/or
churches. Take an honest look around and what you see
are multitudes of Christians who reflect their
preacher, church, or group as much or more than they
reflect Jesus Christ. When a preacher breaks free from
all of this and preaches truth only, it is hard to find
anyone who will listen. If they do listen, it is with
one ear still tied to their traditional church
upbringing. They hang on hoping they can put new wine
in the old wineskins. Jesus said that by your
traditions you make the Word of God of no effect. How
sad and how true that is presently! But change is
coming!

BIBLICAL APPLICATION:
Preach the word! Be ready in season
and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all
longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when
they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to
their own desires, because they have itching ears, they
will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will
turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned
aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things,
endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist,
fulfill your ministry.
