Only God Can Change Things
“Let’s allow the
Spirit of Christ Jesus to effect change within us
so that He can work change through
us.”
To anyone who thinks that change
is needed in this world I want to say that only God can
ultimately change things. Man may do good works
toward that end and give and receive credit for change,
but only God really changes things. The truth is that
men who give and receive credit for change must depend
on God for their very next breath. These truths apply
to all of mankind, including those who are part of the
Church that Jesus Christ is building. Learning,
remembering, and acknowledging that with man change is
impossible can be humbling. However, knowing that
all things, including change, are possible with God can
be rewarding.
God, the Father, sent His Son,
Jesus, to earth in the form of man to accomplish what
only God could accomplish—the redemption of
mankind. Jesus, the Messiah, left His Church on earth
to continue the work that He began. That Church must
learn that she is here to do the will of God, but that
she cannot do it apart from God. Just as Jesus was
dependent upon the Holy Spirit to do what He was sent
to do on earth, His Church is dependent upon the Holy
Spirit to carry on the work of Jesus, the Messiah, on
earth.
Jesus came to this earth in the
form of man and was meek and lowly in heart. He knew no
pride. Any degree of pride would have been a stumbling
block to the work of God through Jesus. Pride has been
and continues to be a stumbling block to the Church
carrying on the work of Jesus, the Messiah. The eyes of
the Lord are looking for people who will humble
themselves before God and man. He is looking for
disciples who will unite with Him and each other in
humility to carry on with the Father’s will.
There are things coming in the
not-so-distant future that are going to require that
the Church be unified in faith and submitted to the
leading of the Holy Spirit in order to be able to
withstand. Most Christians, churches, denominations,
and non-denominational networks are not up to the
task in their present spiritual state. The Church is
divided, and pride often keeps it divided. Pride works
in many ways. It is sometimes flagrant and very
obvious; sometimes it is subtle and not always obvious,
but it is always deceptive. For example, subtle pride
often causes Christians to choose certain churches over
others and blinds them to the fact that they are
choosing what pleases the flesh rather than
surrendering to the Lord and doing what pleases Him.
Unless we humble ourselves and begin pleasing the Lord,
the Church will never mature and be fully effective in
the world. Pride, whether flagrant or subtle, expresses
itself in many forms—spiritual, intellectual,
economic, religious. All separate the body of Christ in
one way or another. God is calling for the Church to
recognize her pride, humble herself before God, and
repent. God is calling humble disciples to unite in
faith and be the Church that Jesus is building.
The Holy Spirit, through His
prophets, is calling for disciples who will unite with
the Lord and each other and become what Jesus always
intended His body to be. Only those who are poor in
spirit, broken and contrite, meek and lowly in heart
will have ears to hear and hearts to
respond. Let’s be among those and begin
praying as never before that a Church comes forth who
has Christ formed within. That Church will be prepared
for all that is ahead and will be a body through which
God can bring the needed changes on this earth.
Let’s allow the Spirit of Christ Jesus to effect
change within us so that He can work change through us.
Let’s allow the Spirit of Christ to form Christ
within us, unite us in faith, and complete the work of
preparing the bride for the Lamb. Let’s be meek
and lowly in heart, a comparable bride with a humility
that is considerate, unassuming, gentle, mild, and
meek, just like Jesus.

BIBLICAL APPLICATION:
Likewise, you who are younger and
of lesser rank, be subject to the elders (the ministers
and spiritual guides of the church)--[giving them due
respect and yielding to their counsel]. Clothe (apron)
yourselves, all of you, with humility [as the garb of a
servant, so that its covering cannot possibly be
stripped from you, with freedom from pride and
arrogance] toward one another. For God sets Himself
against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the
disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)--[and He
opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace
(favor, blessing) to the humble. Therefore humble
yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own
estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due
time He may exalt you … 1 Peter 5:5-6 AMP
