CALLING FOR INTERCESSORS
“The Spirit of the Lord is
calling for disciples who will become
intercessors.”
The Spirit of the Lord is calling
for disciples who will become intercessors. Many are
being called, but to begin with, only a few will
respond. The few who respond initially will be those
who humble themselves and become sensitive to the voice
of the Spirit. The many who will not respond initially
are distracted by many different things of the Church
and of the world, but their real problem is a lack of
sensitivity and obedience to the voice of the Spirit of
God.
Those disciples who are broken and
contrite will have no problem with what I am writing.
They will begin to seek God as never before and will
yield their lives to the Holy Spirit in a greater
dimension than they have experienced heretofore. They
will allow the Holy Spirit to teach them how to be a
mature intercessor, and they will begin to pray with
the spirit and with the understanding the prayers that
He leads them to pray. They will get in the gap and
hold the fort until more answer the call.
The ones who respond in the
beginning must include in their intercession the crying
out for others to respond. The Holy Spirit will use
their witness, faithfulness, perseverance, and prayers
to cause brokenness and obedience in others. They will
fight and win the battle in the spirit realm, which
will bring freedom to the hearts and minds of other
Christians. After freedom comes from whatever has
hindered them, the previously unresponsive Christians
will shake themselves and take their rightful place
alongside those already in the gap.
There are still others who are so
bound by fleshly things of church and the world that
nothing but real hard times will wake them up. This is
regretful, but we must realize that this has always
been the pattern with many Christians. Actually, it has
been the pattern of the majority of Christians, but, as
some say, “better late than never!” There
is yet another group who will not respond whether it is
to the voice of the Spirit or to hard times. They are
so bound by things of man-made Christianity and of the
world that they will not break free. This, too,
has always been a pattern for some Christians.
I must give a caution and/or a
warning. There are many who have already taught much
about intercession, and there are others who have
spoken the need for intercessors both in the past and
presently. Some of them have been led by the Holy
Spirit, and some of them have not been led by the
Spirit of God. There are some who are teaching truth
about intercession; there are others who are mixing
truth with error. There are some who have very little,
if any, truth at all. There are some who are seeking to
be obedient to God and to glorify Christ and Christ
only. There are others who will say the right things,
but their spirit and motive are not right; they are
seeking for self-exaltation even as they speak of
humility. It is a necessity that disciples have their
senses trained to discern who and what is of God and
who and what is not of God.
One last caution: The time grows
ever more short for disciples to respond to the call to
make intercession, and the time to hold the fort until
reinforcements come is not unlimited. It is still
godly restoration or devilish storms. I beseech you to
hear and respond without hesitation. The need is
already here, and there will have to be training.

BIBLICAL APPLICATION:
FIRST OF all, then, I admonish and
urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and
thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men, for
kings and all who are in positions of authority or high
responsibility, that [outwardly] we may pass a quiet
and undisturbed life [and inwardly] a peaceable one in
all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every
way. For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is]
pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior, Who wishes
all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and
recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly
the [divine] Truth. 1
