RETURN TO TRUTH
“The Church in her present
condition is not square, level, and plumb
with
Jesus and His truth.”
The messages I preach, teach, and
write are for those who are hungry for Jesus Christ and
His Word of Truth. They are for those who want to see
Christ glorified, His Church edified, His kingdom
advanced, the lost saved, and the enemy defeated. They
are for the young in Christ and the mature in Christ,
and they are for those who want to break free of
“modern church.” What is “modern
church”? It is church that is not in line with
Jesus and His truth; it is church that has gotten off
center; it is church that has added man’s leaven
to God’s truth.
While preparing this message, the
Holy Spirit gave me fresh revelation about Jesus being
a carpenter by trade and that the Carpenter is building
His Church. The Carpenter has a blueprint for building
a Church that is structurally sound. That blueprint is
the Word of Truth and comes with a caution for the
workmen not to add to or take away from it. Any
deviation from that truth, that blueprint, will
compromise the structural integrity of the building.
Think of important carpentry terms such as square,
level, and plumb. The Church in her present condition
is not square, level, and plumb with Jesus and His
truth.
I cannot address in one message
every area where the Church has deviated from the
blueprint, but I will name a few. Parts of the Church
are off center and/or “out of true” with
the following: what it means to be born again;
understanding that Jesus is the only Way to salvation;
the full meaning of the cross; the truth and purpose of
the baptism in the Holy Spirit; spiritual gifts,
including tongues; Israel; prosperity; healing and
deliverance; praise and worship; prophecy; eternity,
including heaven and hell. The list goes on and on! If
the Lord is willing, I will minister on these and other
things with more detail in the future. I will lovingly
and boldly address such things as leaving one church
where error is obvious and going to another church
where everybody is feeling good, enjoying the music,
and having a “good ole time,” but truth is
not preached consistently and in entirety.
A stranger called me recently and
told me about a large church in our county that is
preaching that no one will go to hell. The truth is
that the church he named and the minister he named were
off center before they got to this point. I was aware
of another church in the past whose leaders ended up in
serious problems that were rooted in sin. In their
effort to justify and cover their sin, there was a
deviation from truth in their earlier years. If there
is a problem with truth, there is sometimes a deeper
problem hiding beneath. Where there is a constant and
prolonged deviation from truth, there will almost
certainly be deviation from true holiness somewhere.
This is why it is so critical that Christians know the
Word of God and discern everything against its truth.
All Christians need to make a regular practice of
examining themselves and those to whom they are
listening to make sure they are operating in truth. If
error is found in any area, repentance and a return to
truth is needed. If the course is corrected quickly,
they can continue on track to their destination.
I have been sounding the cry for
“Restoration, Revival, and Awakening” in
the Church for many years. The return to truth is an
absolutely necessity for this to happen. We definitely
live in a day when there is a famine of truth in the
Church and the world. There is a famine of preaching
truth, and there is a famine of hearing truth. There
are few places that preach and teach truth without some
form of deviation, and there are few really listening
where truth is preached continually. We must remember
that a little leaven—a little deviation from
truth—leavens the whole message and often
produces ineffective disciples who are missing the
mark. These things may not make sense to those whose
view of the Church is limited to their group or a
physical building. The Church must renew her mind and
begin to see as Jesus, her Builder, sees. Jesus sees
one body united in faith throughout the earth (Eph. 4:
3-6).
The solution to the list of
problems mentioned above is simple. Awakened disciples
must return to Jesus Christ and His truth. We must
study to show ourselves approved unto God, workmen who
do not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of
truth (2 Tim. 2:15). Are you one who is hearing?

BIBLICAL APPLICATION:
You were running the race nobly.
Who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from)
your heeding and following the Truth? This [evil]
persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited
you to freedom in Christ]. A little leaven (a slight
inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens
the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of
faith or misleads the whole church]. Gal. 5:7-9 AMP
