God ReSponds to OUr Cries

“Restoration begins inside each of us!”

There is a God-given desire burning in my heart for the restoration of the Church. I believe the Lord is progressively revealing to me what is neccessary for this desire to become a reality. This week, I am visiting my mother in Talladega, Alabama. I spent much of last night sharing the things of God with relatives. As I was preparing to end my visit with one of my cousins, I shook his hand and told him I would remember this time with him the rest of my life. It was so special to fellowship around Jesus and His Word. It is God answering a cry of my heart. Months ago, I started crying out to God for opportunities to see people from my past. I asked Him to make me one whom He could trust with His people. I told the Lord that I really wanted to see relatives and friends from the past, but I did not want it to be just a natural seeing of old acquaintances; I wanted it to be totally of God, and I wanted them to see Christ in me. I asked Him to prepare me for these opportunities, so that Christ would be glorified.

As I reflect on the last few months, I can see that the hand of the Lord has progressively been at work. Within weeks of my crying out to God, He began creating opportunities to see relatives and friends from the past, for which I am so grateful. While He was creating these opportunities, He was also preparing me. He heard all of my prayer, not just part of it. As never before, He has opened my eyes and burned in my heart the vital necessity of Christ Jesus being formed within me while the old nature stays on the cross. As I have reponded to Him, I have witnessed His Spirit working within me and in the circumstances of my life. It is a progressive work and may last a lifetime, buy I can see the hand of God at work.

The work in me is related to my desire for the restoration of the Church. Each member of the body of Christ must have Christ formed within, and the members together, in the unity of faith, give themselves to seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This is the path to restoration! Our heavenly Father desires for all of His family to have Christ formed within and to live in victory over the old nature. As His children respond to what God desires and begin to cry out to Him, He will answer by beginning to bring them together in the unity of faith. Restoration begins inside each of us!

Do you want to see the Church restored to God and to one another? Will you begin to cry out to God for Christ to be formed within you, and for you to be in unity with your brothers and sisters in Christ? Will you ask Him to make you one whom He can trust with His people? If you will cry out, He will hear. If you will respond, He will begin to create circumstances and opportunities. May Christ be glorified!
